DRIFTWOOD DEV #2
OHGODOHGODOHGOD
I made it - but at what cost?????
tl;dr - RPG Maker is at its most fun when you're making more elaborate bitsy games, and actually all of the RPG trappings are such GUNK that only slow down development at every possible turn.
I don't even know if this thing WORKS - I didn't have time to run through it to check that all of the logic played nice.
There is ONE part of this game that I like and I may have locked it behind an impossible task. Oops!
I wound up having a good time with some parts of the development process once I'd finally figured out what the game was. It's just a shame that it took me the better part of two weeks to do that.
Sure look. Worse things have happened. It's just videogames.
I will update this for browser support and with some fixes but I will NOT add any new content. This is it. All of the junk is in there somewhere. I just want to say that regardless of updates, I DID meet the deadline (which I postponed).
There's potentially some gnarly bits in this game?? But it's also for laughs. I also panicked towards the end and had to scrounge through A DIFFERENT PROJECT to replace a few pieces of stock RPG Maker artwork. Woah - that frog monster is pretty cool. I wonder what game that's from???
I also threw in an unfinished song that has been sitting on my desktop for some time. I wanted to compose more music for this but can only really take credit for the battle theme, the overworld theme, and the town theme. Everything else is something else (but pitched down). Which includes the BIG number. But that was always going to be the case.
Big shout out to Bringo for the additional easter egg - which may be vital to find should you want to reach the endgame.
I'm just now realizing that the endgame doesn't end.
Does adding an end state count as additional content??????
EDIT: Okay, it's way too late but I have confirmed a few things:
1. There are still some stock RPG Maker art assets present in the build that I'd really love to kill (character portraits)
2. Every piece of content IS able to be reached with some work. So that's a relief.
3. I am already seeing all of the extra little bits that I would've loved to include (HATS!) but alas, I'd just be adding nonsense to something that mostly does what it needs to do.
4. The endgame is endless but maybe a little vibey? If I could change ONE thing and one thing only it would be to add some animation in that scene. (okay - and maybe an extra line of dialog)
5. I am too sad basically all of the time. But gosh, I do like some of the stuff I wrote for this.
